Overview

Plan.fm aggregates your invites and plans into a simple consolidated calendar. Facebook events, Meetups, Evites, and other events can all be collected onto one calendar and delivered to you via email or sync'ed to your calendar. In addition, it provides a window into the activities of your friends and colleagues by bringing in your social and professional networks (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.).  We want do for events what TripIt is doing for travel and more.

We are currently focused on enhancing the core product experience because we believe it provides tremendous utility for those who have to actively manage their calendars. We believe the product could change the way people plan and view their activities - ultimately becoming a destination to plan new activities, track friend's activities and share real-time updates on activities. We believe the potential is great, but the key is to get the core functionality right.

Discussion Points

Usability - The online event space is fragmented with over 70 different event scheduling, personal calendars, and social calendar services. Our mission is to separate the signal from the noise within this fragmentation. What are some ways in which Plan.fm can be an indispensable compliment to a users preferred calendar/scheduling system?

Strategy – Does it make sense to focus on certain vertical networks as a growth strategy? Is there value in focusing on networks like Linked In that allows users to find events their colleagues, competitors, and potential clients are attending? Focusing on professionals may also opens up more possibilities for providing lead generation opportunities for industry conferences. Are there any other verticals that we should be thinking about?

Revenue – The focus of revenue has been on sponsorships in emails, sponsored event listings, and affiliate programs (fandango, live nation, eventbrite, open table, stub hub).  We’d love to hear the experiences other entrepreneurs had with various similar methods as well as discuss other opportunities.

Bios

Tobin Schwaiger-Hastanan - Founder

Tobin created Plan.fm while exploring ways to share plans with friends. The product was born out of the realization that there are too many event scheduling applications online and that different people prefer different services. Previously Tobin was co-founder of Cupid's Lab and worked as a software engineer for companies such as FOX Interactive Media, MLB Advanced Media and MTV Networks.

Min Wei - Advisor

Min is passionate about technology and the consumer Internet.  She started her career in a technical role, developing software for an investment bank. After attending MIT - Sloan School of Management, she moved into strategy and business development roles, first at Dow Jones Consumer Media Group and currently at AOL.  She is helping to think through product strategy and growth opportunities for Plan.fm.

Hosted by New Work City - @nwc

This event is hosted by New Work City, a community coworking space in Manhattan. New Work City is a gathering spot for a community of like-minded individuals who need somewhere to work that’s both creative and social, and professional and conducive to working.
